The Rand Show, formerly known as the Rand Easter Show, is the biggest consumer show in Johannesburg and Southern Africa. The Rand Show is one of those brands that resonates in the hearts of South Africans. It has withstood the test of time, even weathering the Anglo-Boer War. Launched way back in 1894 when the city of Johannesburg was but eight years old, the Rand Show was one of the first big events for Joburgers. The brainchild of the newly instituted Witwatersrand Agricultural Society, the Rand Show began life as an agricultural show to showcase the pride of the Transvaal farming community and opened by Paul Kruger. Held on an old brickfield next to Milner Park, farmers from around the then Transvaal Republic showed off their Best of Breed bulls and prized dairy stock. Little did those early organisers know they had started a legend that would feature in so many people’s memories over the centuries. And it was not long before that modest exhibition of farming equipment and livestock had grown into the largest consumer show on the Southern African calendar. The Rand Show revolves around families, their interests, lifestyles and living spaces and has 11 themed interest group categories catering for every family member: THE MAN CAVE – is a sanctuary geared with all male interest items from wine, whiskey & brandy tastings, to sport, hobbies, gadgets, gaming, fashion & accessories, sound systems, collector’s items, cars, motorbikes, and more. HOME LIVING - showcases all aspects for a better home lifestyle from appliances, furniture, décor, services, home improvements, green living, design, and art. OUTDOOR LIFESTYLE - is dedicated to all aspects of outdoor living from gardening, water features, awnings, decking, landscaping, pools, pottery, outdoor furniture, accessories and equipment. FOOD EXPERIENCE – showcases all food experiences from hot beverages, to wine, cheese and chocolate tastings, food markets, delicacies, to cookware, utensils, tableware, kitchen appliances and equipment. SCIENCE & TECH LAB – showcases the latest scientific and technological advancements in the fields of science, physics, astronomy, geography, agricultural, environmental, telecommunications, computer sciences, information technology, education and medical. KIDS KINGDOM – showcases kids entertainment, toys, furniture, fashion, gaming, educational material, hobbies, and more. SHOWCASE SOUTH AFRICA – showcases government, corporate and parastatal’s services, CSI projects, developmental programmes, bursaries, schools, universities and professional bodies. FASHION, BEAUTY & WELLNESS – showcases fashion, accessories, cosmetics, beauty treatments, spas, fragrances, health products, supplements, fitness equipment and gyms. INTERNATIONAL MARKET SQUARE – showcases international retail products and services, tourism and cultural associations, arts and crafts, textiles and décor from around the world. OUTDOOR ADVENTURE – showcases outdoor adventures, 4 x 4 trails, camping equipment, outdoor sports equipment and destinations. PETS & ANIMAL KINGDOM – showcases all pet products, services, accessories, and educational programmes on pet and animal care. A 122 years later and the Rand Show has so much to offer.
